How to look at a glass of wine - yes LOOK with your EYES | Buy Wine Online

WINE WITH THE EYES

Yes, you can learn a lot from looking into the "soul of the wine" (if you will!).

SIMILAR TO FOOD

Get your optometrist hat on! Like the food that pairs with your wine, we work with our olfactory and optometric senses but we start with the eyes!

HOW DO YOU DO THAT

For all of those blessed with the a wide range of color receptors in their eyes (rods and cones), the color of a wine tells its "story"!

ALL IN THE TILT

Hold out the glass and tilt it a bit. (pinky out for a little fun level of ostentatiousness! humour intended!).

On a serious note, attempt to hold the wine over a white surface of any kind

GO DEEP

Observe the depth of color from the rim to the center of the glass. Let's start simple!

The depth of color is also a informative factor in wines style.

For example, an inky, dark hued Bordeaux is probably going to be intense, mouth filling lower in acid and long. Young Bordeaux or young Bordeaux styled wines with light colors are going to be lighter in flavor, with more red fruits than black and brighter in acidity.

This is just an example of how you look at the wines so you can gain a more sophisticated understanding of how color will influence the taste!
