Wine And The Moon

Some say "yes" and some "no” to the dark side and the light! But there is always the placebo effect! Yes, that is a real "thing"! Let's get into the questions and some answers and seeing where the lunar effect is real or just a figment of our imagination. Come join us APOLLO for a quick 13 answers!

HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM

Have you ever tasted the same bottle of wine on two occasions and wondered why it was better the second or other time?

SOME LIKE IT DARK

Some people believe that the moon could be affecting the taste of your wine.

BIODYNAMIC CALENDAR

The biodynamic calendar was first developed by Maria Thun (1922-2012) which uses the relative position of the the moon and the planets to work out the best days for planting and sowing of produce.

LUNAR OR NOT

It does this by determining which days in the Lunar cycle are root, leaf, fruit and flower days.

THE THEORY

According to this theory, wine consumed on fruit and flower days will taste more vibrant, full-bodied and basically better than wine tasted on root or leaf days because of the wine's relative reaction to the moon's movements.

THE BBC REPORTED

And this theory is taken pretty seriously in the wine world, with some major supermarkets even arranging wine tasting sessions around the good and bad days in the calendar!

NEITHER "GOODE" NOR "BADD"

Wine scientist Jamie Goode, however, told the BBC that there could be a lot more variables at hand here.

NEVER JUST ONE THING

"Wine tastes different on different days but the differences are not that huge and the differences are more about atmospheric pressure", he said.

BREAK THE PRESSURE

Yes, barometric and atmospheric pressure!

WE ARE ALL PART OF THE EQUATION

"And we are part of the equation when it comes to tasting wine. We are not measuring devices. The taste of the wine is something we generate in response to the wine."

Some have claimed to have disproven the theory but remember that placebo and feeling good is all part of it but don't let it be disqualifying.

WELL, YOU KNOW IT IS COMING

Yes, these wines taste good all the time and perhaps a full moon brings out a different kind of romantic in you and love for the solar. We are all part of a crazy large universe. Let's keep it global!

Well, even if it just a feeling, sometimes we get a good feeling!

Yes, the notion of the blog came to us when looking to the moon last night and having a glass of red and reading!

Reds and reading - go well together!
